Nancy Yarbrough


Ms. Nancy Yarbrough is a Social Justice Activist, Victim Advocate, and Founder- Executive Director of Fresh Start Learning, Inc., (FSL) located in the City of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Nancy knows firsthand that diminishing sex trafficking not only involves providing outreach and direct services to victims and survivors, but also creating widespread community awareness of the reality of sex trafficking. With over 25 years of experience and education in the areas of sex trafficking prevention and awareness and professional development, Nancy provides stimulating keynote presentations
from her professional and personal journey through exploitation which allows her to provide create and facilitate effective community training forums and sessions.

The goals of Ms. Yarbrough’s training and public awareness activities are to educate the community about sex trafficking, dispel the myths surrounding sex trafficking, help increase the identification of those marginalized, victimized and vulnerable to trafficking, improve the response of service providers and justice systems, and to build a stronger collaborative response among the criminal justice system, service providers, community, and victim advocates of this pressing issue.

 Fresh Start Learning, Inc., is a 10 plus-year-old community-based organization that provides comprehensive, outreach and supportive services for victims of human trafficking and domestic violence. FSL is excited about their newest endeavor — the launch of their provisional housing for sex trafficking, Domestic violence survivors. Ms. Yarbrough believes in the need for cultural competency in meeting the needs of victims - survivors and doing so from the place of where their lives were interrupted. FSL services operate from a place of harm reduction non-judgmental lenses that provides love, respect and high-quality service that is built on trauma informed care. FSL pride itself on allowing the victim - survivor an opportunity to be hands on with their healing journey. 

Ms. Yarbrough is also a consultant and group facilitator / trainer working directly with victims of domestic abuse and sex trafficking along with but not limited to school systems, governmental and non-governmental agencies, at-risk youth facilities, social services, SANE programs, on college campus, local police district, elected officials, church organizations, women’s group, legal teams, and more. Further, she has a considerable number of years of training and education on community organizing and outreach, program development curriculum building and advocacy, domestic violence and sex trafficking victim counseling and awareness and trauma and substance abuse disorders. She currently holds certification for Early Childhood Development and Leadership Development, direct services through crisis stabilization for youth and families that have experienced trauma. 

Ms. Yarbrough has worked in the Milwaukee community and surrounding counties for over 20+ years in the areas of banking, adult education, advocacy/supportive services, professionalism skill development, as a childcare service training provider and as an activist in pursuing legal rights for women in the workforce.
